  39. extensions are perfectly acceptable when compression programs

  47. Reconcile updates two directories you specify. It copies files each way 
  48. until both directories contain the most recent copies of all the files 
  49. you want updated. It will also update each directory's sub-directories 
  50. if you wish.

  52. Reconcile will be invaluable to:
  53.  
  54. * People with portable computers or who take work home on floppy disks. 
  55.   These users need to ensure that they are always working on the most 
  56.   up-to-date versions of all files.
  57. * Groups of co-workers in small offices running several computers with no 
  58.   network, who need to ensure that everyone has current copies of files.
  59. * Users who wish to be spared the hassle of either backing up all their 
  60.   files each time, or remembering which files have changed.

  62. The main features of the shareware version are:
  63.  
  64. * Reconcile compares all the files in a pair of directories and marks each 
  65.   file for exclusion, update or copying, according to what you have told it 
  66.   to do. It copies files backwards and forwards until both directories 
  67.   contain the most up-to-date versions of every file you want updated.
  68. * The directories can be on the same drive or different drives.  They can 
  69.   be on any MS-DOS drive on any machine across a network which File Manager
  70.   recognises. This includes drives on remote machines set up using INTERLNK, 
  71.   BROOKLYN BRIDGE or similar utilities.
  72. * Reconcile will keep track of the disk space available and will not attempt 
  73.   to copy or update files if there is not enough room for them. It will warn 
  74.   you if there is not enough space.
  75. * You can instruct Reconcile to confirm with you before it updates or copies 
  76.   any file or creates any sub-directory.
  77. * You can specify a set of up to twenty files or file types to be included 
  78.   in the update and a similar set to be excluded.
  79. * You can record a set of options in a script file and recall it at any time 
  80.   to repeat the reconciliation.
  81. * You can run Reconcile from the Windows command line so that it will 
  82.   automatically begin a reconciliation when you start it.  You can also use 
  83.   the File Manager association facility to run a script file by double-
  84.   clicking on it (the association is set up by the Reconcile install 
  85.   program.)

  87. The registered version has these additional features:

  89. * It can also look at files in all the sub-directories of the two root 
  90.   directories you specify.  If you tell it to, it will create missing sub-
  91.   directories until both directory trees are the same.
  92. * Reconcile can preview what it would do without actually doing it.
  93. * You can also select or exclude files by their date and time stamps.
  94. * Reconcile can keep a detailed log disk file (of your choice) of all its 
  95.   actions and any changes you make to options or script files.
  96. * You can instruct Reconcile to work in the background, updating directories 
  97.   without your intervention.

  99. The original DOS version of this program was written for a national UK 
  100. company. The staff had their own PCs, but no network.  Everyone had to be 
  101. sure they were working on the most recent copies of reports and other files 
  102. and that older copies did not overwrite new ones.

  104. Reconcile has been in daily use for more than two years with no problems. 
  105. The Windows version builds on the concept of the DOS one, but has been 
  106. completely rewritten from scratch.  Michael Quinion used the first Windows 
  107. version to update his own files for about six months before putting it on 
  108. the market.  This included backing up later versions of the Reconcile source 
  109. files themselves.
